You never know what you might find
in the trash heap, crumpled up,
thrown away. We live in a wasteland
of disposable culture, the more we have,
the less we value, the more we crave.
To quench our thirst, with a simple
drink of water, flowing freely
from the tap, instead we empty
a plastic container, that ends up
strangling a sea bird, half a world away.
It is a voracious beast, insatiable,
faithless, blind to the true cost, this world
of things eating up our planet.
More, ever more, adding links to the
chain, growing tighter around our necks.
