Blessings

A 90 year old woman, healthy, active,
children, grand children, great grandchildren,
still independent with a lovely home and
the faded numbers tattooed on her arm.

The handsome young man, ivy league educated,
a new jaguar, six-figure salary,
penthouse in the city, estate at the shore;
a tumor growing silently in his brain.

The most popular kid at school,
captain of every team,
homecoming king; his drunken father
beats him black and blue.

Remember to count your blessings.
Be thankful for what you have,
and don’t forget to give thanks,
as well, for what you haven’t.
